A EuroMillions winner who helped to save a police officer’s life just weeks before scooping £1m (€1.2m) has died after a suspected hit-and-run crash in England.
Police were called to the collision between a cyclist and a black Ford Ka in Maldon Road, Tiptree, at 6.30am on May 21, Essex Police said.
The cyclist was taken to hospital where he died four days later, the force added.
He is understood to be Anthony Canty, a key worker who helped save the life of a police officer who had a heart attack on a bus during the covid-19 lockdown.
He won £1m (€1.2m) in May 2020 just weeks later.
Mr Canty gave the officer CPR after he collapsed while they were on a bus in April 2020.
The officer was airlifted to hospital and spent five days in intensive care.
Mr Canty said at the time that he stayed in touch with the officer’s partner while he was in hospital, and dropped off fruit and flowers, and kept in contact after he recovered.
An 18-year-old man was initially arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving while unfit through drink/drugs and failing to stop, the force added.
He remains under investigation and inquiries continue.
Officers would like to hear from anyone who saw or has footage of a black Ford Ka car being driven in the area around the time of the collision.
Anyone with information, CCTV, dashcam or other footage can contact police quoting 174 of 21 May.
