Ten Conservative cabinet ministers and a former prime minister are among the major names to have lost their seats in the British General Election, beating the previous record of seven defeats in 1997.

Rishi Sunak conceded defeat nationally in a speech in his constituency, saying the British public had delivered “a sobering verdict”.
