British Ministry of Defence apologises for death of Iraqi boy in 2003

The British Ministry of Defence has apologised for the death of an Iraqi boy, who drowned after being left to die in a canal by British soldiers.

Ahmad Jabbar Kareem Ali was 15 when it happened in Basra in 2003.

He had been arrested for looting and taken to the canal to be given a 'soaking' by the soldiers, but it emerged he couldn't swim.

An inquiry has ruled the soldiers failed to rescue him.
