Indian man does bird for brother-in-law

An Indian man has reportedly served 18 months of his brother-in-law's life sentence for murder.

According to prison officials in the country, Kiran Singh spent a year-and-a-half in jail on behalf of Raj Kumar, who persuaded him to take his place so he could look after his five unmarried sisters.

The pair were only found out when Singh's cellmate Faisal - who was Kumar's accomplice in the murder of a labourer, which was the reason they were sentenced to jail - betrayed them and told prison authorities what had happened.

Singh - whose family thought he had simply left the area to look for work - had Kumar's name tattooed on his arm to convince police it was him.

Kumar has now been arrested and Singh has been charged with fraud, which could land him his own life sentence if he is convicted.
