Police dog killed during arrest attempt
Authorities in the US state of New Jersey said they arrested a man for allegedly killing a police dog that was trying to apprehend him.
Gloucester Township police said Skyler Robinson threw the German shepherd named Schultz into road traffic.
Authorities said the three-year-old dog had tracked Robinson and another suspect about half a mile from a restaurant they are accused of robbing.
Robinson also was injured by the car that struck Schultz. Police said the dog had grabbed the suspect’s arm when he swung the animal into the busy road.
A person convicted of killing a police animal in New Jersey can be sentenced to five years in prison.
