School porter quizzed over 'poisoned soup'
A kitchen porter accused of lacing soup with poison at a top British public school has been questioned by police.
The 58-year-old was arrested after the alleged incident at Stowe School, Buckingham, on March 12 but was not detained due to health reasons.
He answered bail yesterday and was interviewed at Aylesbury police station before being re-bailed until May 14 so that forensic investigations can take place.
Thames Valley Police previously said there was no apparent motive for the alleged act.
They were called to the prestigious Ā£27,000 (ā¬30,000) a year school after a chef tasted the carrot and coriander soup due to be served to pupils as part of their evening meal and spat it out, saying it tasted acrid.
The porter was arrested on suspicion of administering poison with intent to endanger life or inflict grievous bodily harm.
Headteacher Anthony Wallersteiner said it is believed the product used was a āhousehold cleaning product that would be used in any domestic kitchenā.
He said he was unaware of any grievances the man may have had against the school.
Dr Wallersteiner said the employee, who had worked for the school since January 2007, has been suspended under the schoolās disciplinary procedure pending a full inquiry.
The school has around 760 pupils, drawing from a national catchment area, with around 10-15% from overseas.
Past pupils include tycoon Richard Branson.
