Normal flying schedule for beleaguered Terminal 5
Heathrow’s Terminal 5 in England is expected to return to a normal schedule today after more than a week of chaos and misery for passengers.
British Airways said it hoped to operate a “full flying schedule” today for the first time since the terminal’s opening day debacle last Thursday.
The lower frequency weekend schedule gives the airport operators some leeway as it prepares to run a full weekday service for the first time from Monday.
A spokesman for BA said: “We plan to operate a full flying schedule to and from Heathrow Terminal 5 on Saturday 5 April, Sunday 6 April and Monday 7 April.
“We want to provide a robust and reliable schedule for our customers. We will move to a consistent 100 per cent weekday schedule as soon as we can.”
The problems at the airline were expected to cost BA about £16 million, the airline said.
The company said the terminal was now running “very well” and there was no fall-off in bookings as a result of the problems.
Supermodel Naomi Campbell was released on bail yesterday after she was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer at the airport.
The 37-year-old Streatham-born model was arrested after problems with her luggage at T5.
Campbell’s spokeswoman blamed the incident on the chaos at the terminal.
A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said: “A 37-year-old was released on bail to return on a date in late May, pending further inquiries.”
