Fibres link driver to three bodies in Ipswich murder case

Fibres linked to a forklift truck driver and found on the bodies of three murdered prostitutes “would not occur by chance,” a court in the UK heard today.

Tiny fragments found on the naked bodies of Anneli Alderton, Annette Nicholls and Paula Clennell matched those found at Steve Wright’s home, in his car and on his clothing, jurors were told.

Ray Palmer, a fibres expert, said the chances of finding fibres linked to Wright on one of the women’s bodies were “very small”, and he said the likelihood of the same fibres being discovered on the bodies of three women was “even smaller”.

Wright, 49, of Ipswich, Suffolk, denies murdering Miss Alderton, 24, Miss Nicholls, 29, Miss Clennell 24, Gemma Adams, 25, and Tania Nicol, 19.

Wright’s trial at Ipswich Crown Court is expected to last until March.
