Earthquake hits Greece
A strong earthquake rattled southern Greece early today and was felt in the capital, Athens.
However, police said there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
The US Geological Survey said the magnitude 6.1 quake happened at 5.14am and was centred 124 kilometres southwest of Athens, in the southern Peloponnese region.
“This earthquake occurred deep under land ... and these types of earthquakes have certain characteristics. So it appears the danger from this event is over,” Gerasimos Papadopoulos, the institute’s director of research said later.
