Thousands flee as floodwater reaches rooftops in Mexico
A week of heavy rains unleashed massive flooding in south-eastern Mexico, killing at least one person and forcing tens of thousands to flee the rising waters for shelters in Tabasco and Chiapas.
A man was killed and 20,400 people sought shelter yesterday in Tabasco’s oil-rich capital of Villahermosa, the state government said. Governor Andres Granier urged residents to evacuate the city where floodwaters reached the rooftops of homes.
