THOUSANDS of people were plucked from rooftops in southern Mexico yesterday as water receded after flooding that left 800,000 homeless in Tabasco state, authorities said.

A week of heavy rains unleashed massive flooding in south-eastern Mexico, killing at least one person and forcing tens of thousands to flee the rising waters for shelters in Tabasco and Chiapas states.
