Afghan suicide bomber kills two policemen
Two officers were killed when a suicide bomber attacked a police vehicle in southern Afghanistan today, an official said.
The bomber, carrying explosives strapped to his body, attacked a police patrol in the Nad Ali district of Helmand province, said provincial police chief Ghulam Nabi Mulakheil.
Two officers and the bomber died in the blast, Mr Mulakheil said.
Helmand province is the world’s largest opium producing area. Nato-led troops launched their biggest anti-Taliban offensive there last month.
In neighbouring Zabul province, US-led coalition troops detained 10 men suspected of facilitating foreign fighters in Afghanistan, the coalition said in a statement.
The troops raided several compounds in Zabul’s Qala district early today, the statement said.
There were no reports of injuries during the raid.
