Fans stage minutes silence for Ipswich victims

The chairman of Ipswich Town today said he expected the minute’s silence prior to the club’s home game with Leeds United to be “special”.

David Sheepshanks said he was confident that both Ipswich and Leeds fans would observe the silence in tribute to the five murdered prostitutes.

“I think everybody has been dumbstruck by what has happened,” he said.

“You don’t have to come from Ipswich to be affected. I have no doubt that the silence will be a special few moments. “I have every confidence that it will be properly observed by everyone.”

The Bishop of Suffolk, Richard Lewis, will say prayers prior to the game and police will appeal to fans to come forward if they have information.

Ipswich’s Portman Road ground is situated near the town’s red light area, where police think the prostitutes were working when the killer struck.
