Exit polls indicate Berlusconi trails Prodi

Conservative Premier Silvio Berlusconi trailed behind centre-left challenger Romano Prodi in Italian parliamentary elections, an exit poll showed today.

The Nexus poll indicated that Prodi’s coalition had received between 50% and 54% of the vote in both the upper and lower chambers of parliament, while Berlusconi’s coalition had between 45% and 49%.
