Former top Vatican bank official Marcinkus dies

Archbishop Paul Marcinkus, who had once been the top official at the Vatican’s bank, has died.

Marcinkus was in his 80s and had retired but remained active in the ministry.

He was found dead at his home yesterday evening, said Mary Jo West, a spokeswoman for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phonix, Arizona.

West had no further information on his death.
