Quake shakes Pakistani capital
A moderate earthquake jolted Pakistan’s capital and two northern towns today, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage, an official said.
The magnitude-5.2 quake was felt in the capital, Islamabad, the northwestern city of Peshawar and Chitral, a scenic town in the country’s north.
Nasir Mahmood, an official at the state-run seismological centre, said the quake was centred about 180 miles north of Peshawar in the Hindu Kush mountains in Afghanistan.
Moderate earthquakes are often felt in Pakistan, and many are centred in the Hindu Kush mountains.
