Undercover hack arrested at Wimbledon

An undercover journalist posing as a security guard at Wimbledon tennis tournament has been arrested by police, it emerged today.

The reporter, understood to work for The Sun, was employed under a temporary contract by Group 4 Securicor for the world famous sporting event.

He was arrested yesterday afternoon in connection with security at Wimbledon after a series of checks by police.

The Sun today said: “No comment.”

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said: “A man in his 20s was arrested on the afternoon of June 17 following security checks.

“It is not terrorist related and the man remains in custody at a south London police station.”

The journalist had been working for G4S for a week.

A spokeswoman for Group 4 Securicor said: “A member of staff at Wimbledon was arrested on suspicion of obtaining pecuniary advantage.

“Prior to his arrest, this person was employed by G4S Security Services UK and put on guard duty under supervision.

“The person in question was employed by a national newspaper. He was cleared for his role based on the information and references provided. We take these allegations very seriously and have dismissed the officer from all duties.”

The arrest at Wimbledon comes only days after The Sun sparked a security review at Britain's Sandhurst military academy following claims that an undercover reporter breached the boundaries and took video footage of UK royal Prince Harry.
