A 12-year-old girl who was released by police this morning after being quizzed over the attempted murder of a five-year-old boy has been re-arrested, police said.

A 12-year-old girl who was released by police this morning after being quizzed over the attempted murder of a five-year-old boy has been re-arrested, police said.

Anthony Hinchliffe was found wandering alone with ligature-type marks around his neck and bruising to his body in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, on Tuesday evening.

West Yorkshire Police said a 12-year-old girl freed this morning after magistrates refused to grant a warrant to extend the time they could keep the child in custody was re-arrested this afternoon.

Detectives are also continuing to question a girl and a boy, both aged 11, over the alleged attack, which happened just 200 metres from the victim’s home in Dewsbury.

Two 12-year-old boys were released overnight, police said.

A force spokeswoman said: “The 12-year-old girl who was released this morning, following an unsuccessful application by police for a warrant of further detention from the magistrates court, has been re-arrested in connection with the incident this afternoon.

“She is currently at Dewsbury Police Station where she will be further spoken to by officers.”
