Fathers 4 Justice trio scale UK foreign office
Three members of the Fathers 4 Justice campaign dressed as superheroes today clambered on to a ledge of the British Foreign Office, around 50ft above the junction of Whitehall and Downing Street.
The three protesters were dressed as Batman, Robin and Captain America.
A police officer was at a nearby window of the office trying to talk to the protestors who were perched above the heavy duty security gates which protect Downing Street from possible terrorist attack.
The protesters had unfurled a banner declaring: “Access denied. Don’t let Labour stop you being a Superdad.”
The protest immediately attracted a considerable audience of police officers and members of the public who were looking on, although there was no immediate effort to stop traffic flowing along Whitehall.
Richard Castle, the London co-ordinator of Fathers 4 Justice, said the protesters planned to continue their demonstration for as long as possible.
Mr Castle said: “They are hardened protesters and they will stay up there as long as they can.”
Mr Castle said that the protester dressed as Batman was Jason Hatch, who previously hit the headlines when he scaled the walls of Buckingham Palace.
Mr Castle said the protesters accessed the ledge by climbing a ladder almost at the other end of the Whitehall side of the foreign office.
The ladder, mounted on the back of a flatbed truck, parked on the pavement was still in position this afternoon.
Mr Castle said that the campaign group is planning a series of protest events in the run up to the British general election.
