Gambler jumps to death after €300,000 loss
A man who gambled away €300,000 in a Macau casino jumped to his death from the fourth floor restaurant last night.
The victim – a 41-year-old man – landed in the lobby.
He started gambling in the Sands Casino early yesterday and lost more than €300,000 by the afternoon.
The Sands Macau was opened in May by a Las Vegas company which is expanding in the southern Chinese gambling enclave after the local government opened up its casino sector to competition in 2002.
A former Portuguese colony, Macau returned to Chinese rule in 1999. Located 40 miles west of Hong Kong, it draws thousands of Hong Kong and Chinese gamblers who have no casinos at home.
