Jordanian embassy attacked in Baghdad
A rocket propelled grenade struck the Jordanian embassy in Baghdad today, and one man was seen being carried away on a stretcher.
It was not clear who was behind the attack, but Jordan attracted criticism from some in the region for its support for the US-led invasion of Iraq.
Police at the scene pushed onlookers away, fearing there might be a second attack, witnesses said.
Many Iraqis are resentful that Jordan dropped its support for Saddam Hussein and allowed US troops to use its soil as a base during the latest war.
Jordan’s King Abdullah granted “humanitarian asylum” last week to two of Saddam’s daughters, whose husbands took refuge in Jordan but were lured back and killed by Saddam’s regime in 1996.
