Two women support Ulrika rape claim
Two women have come forward with complaints against the TV presenter at the centre of a row over Ulrika Jonsson’s alleged rape, it emerged tonight.
The two women had complaints “of a similar nature”, PR guru Max Clifford said.
“I have had calls from two people who are coming to see me, that have made allegations about the same person,” he told PA News.
The publicist said he did not know if either woman had gone to the police with their allegations.
Neither was said to be in the public eye but their contact with Clifford suggested they might be prepared to make their accusations public.
He said he expected to see both women within the next few days but stressed that he had no evidence their claims were true.
“It could turn out to be absolutely nothing,” he said. “It’s nothing more than two people coming to see me.”
The television presenter – who has not been named – has reportedly denied Ms Jonsson’s claims that he raped her, saying the pair had sex but that it was consensual.
The former weather girl with TV-am was the victim of a date rape in 1988, she said in her new autobiography, when she was in a hotel room getting ready to go to the cinema with the man.
She has not named the man allegedly responsible and has refused to take the matter to the police.
Other women have since told her they had similar experiences with the man, she claims, and police have already signalled that they would be willing to investigate any complaint.
But Ms Jonsson, 35, told PA News yesterday: “Until I involve the police it’s nothing to do with them. I’ve given my reasons and I’ve said my piece.”
She said she felt a sense of responsibility to other women in a similar situation but stressed it would be a “big thing” for her to now go through a prosecution with no guarantee of the outcome.
Counselling groups said such actions might not be helpful to other rape victims but accepted that Ms Jonsson may have genuine concerns about taking the claims further and reliving her experience.
