Carr may give evidence by video link
Discussions were taking place today to decide whether Maxine Carr should be allowed to give evidence by video link at a court hearing tomorrow.
A circuit judge was hearing representations from lawyers in the case at Peterborough magistrates’ court, where the 25-year-old is due to make her second appearance.
Allowing Carr to give video evidence from prison in Holloway, north London, would avoid a repeat of the angry scenes outside the court last week.
A crowd of about 500 shouted abuse, threw eggs and waved banners calling for the return of capital punishment when Carr was driven into the court.
A spokesman for the Lord Chancellor’s Department said: “There is a meeting at the court today to look at issues relating to tomorrow’s hearing.
“I believe it involves the judge and the parties to the case.”
Carr faces charges of perverting the course of justice in connection with the murders of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman.
Roy James, Carr’s solicitor, told London’s Evening Standard newspaper: “I would prefer to avoid a repeat of the scenes we saw last week.
“One option would be for Maxine to appear in court via the video-link service.
“A final decision would have to be made by the resident judge at the Crown court.”
