Family survives earthquake with single bottle of water
A family of three survived for five days on a bottle of water and a few tomatoes while being trapped under their home after the Indian earthquake.
The young couple and their six-year-old daughter were pulled from the rubble after 100 hours under debris in Kutch.
The Deccan Chronicle says Chitra, 40, her husband Silveria Chelappan and their daughter were in the kitchen of their home when the building collapsed.
Chitra, the first to be taken out, said from her hospital bed: "We survived by giving solace to each other in the darkness and sharing water and the tomatoes that we had".
The official death toll following the earthquake in India has reached 14,239.
Gujarat's home minister believes the figure could rise as high as 25,000, including those people still buried under collapsed buildings.
Experts say few people could survive more than 100 hours buried in rubble - a mark that was crossed on Tuesday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the US Geological Survey adjusted its measurement of the quake, saying it had a magnitude of 7.7 rather than 7.9.
The quake was felt from Pakistan, all over India, in Nepal and Bangladesh. At least 18 people were killed in Pakistan
