Size matters when it comes to TV screens

EUROPEAN living rooms are filling up with ever-bigger television screens, figures suggest.

Size matters when it comes to TV screens

Manufacturer Sharp predicts the average size of TVs bought across Europe will increase to 60” by 2015.

And retailer Comet said the average size of its TV screens had increased to 30” from 25” two years ago.

The largest TVs on sale at the electrical chain have 60” screens while 50” TV sets are its fastest-growing category.

Sharp said customer demand for high-definition picture quality had boosted the affordability of larger TVs. Sharp TVs with 46” screens have seen a sales surge of 150% in the past 12 months.

Sharp said 46” screens were its most popular compared with the 42” versions last year.

Comet’s head of vision Huw Crwys-Williams said: “We’ve seen a 7,000% uplift in sales of 50” TVs in the past two years and it’s now the fastest growing category. When it comes to the future of TVs, size really does matter.”
