Thanksgiving dinner ends in triple killing
Two men were being held after the shooting, which occurred at an apartment complex in north Oakland.
A gunman walked into an apartment where 11 people were having dinner and opened fire, authorities said.
Two women and one man were killed and another man suffered a broken back when he tried to escape by jumping out a second-floor window, police said.
The gunman fled, prompting authorities to close down surrounding blocks and conduct an apartment-by-apartment sweep.
Asmero Tewolda surrendered to police several hours later, after barricading himself in the complex, police said. His brother, whose name was not released, was also taken into custody, although his alleged role in the incident was unclear.
“Right now we are looking at both of them as suspects,” said Officer Roland Holmgren, a police spokesman.
Authorities believe the shooting stemmed from an ongoing family dispute, said Lt Kenny Whitman. Several handguns were recovered at the scene, he said.
The man who jumped out the window was taken to hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, police said.
