Young Muslim man shot in terror raid feared for his life
In a dramatic account that left Scotland Yard facing tough questions over its handling of the operation, Mohammed Abdul Kahar, 23, claimed he was kicked in the face by a police officer, slapped and dragged down a stairway by his foot.
He also alleged he was fired on without warning.
His voice close to breaking, Mr Kahar recalled the moment he was shot, describing how he suddenly saw an “orange spark” and was flung against the wall.
He fell to the floor and then looked down to see blood and a hole in his chest.
With his arm in a sling, Mr Kahar told a packed press conference that it was not until he was dragged outside and saw police vans that he realised it was a raid.
His testimony is certain to pile further pressure on the beleaguered Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair — also under pressure over the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes — as well as the police and intelligence services.
Mr Kahar and his younger brother, Abul Koyair, 20, who were both arrested during the dawn raid, called on those responsible for the raid to apologise.
Both men were held fro a week, from June 2, but released without charge.
Police had been hunting for a suspected chemical bomb, but officers found nothing at the property.
