Rabbit digs in at PETA shoot

IMOGEN Bailey got more than she planned for when she posed with Reggie the rabbit for an animal rights group.

Bailey was posing with a sign that reads “Hands off the Buns. No Fur” to promote an anti-fur advertisement for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.

But it was after the model bared all for the photo shoot that Reggie decided to dig his claws in.

Despite the discomfort, it was for a worthwhile cause, said Bailey, who joined other celebrities who have stripped for the campaign sponsored by the animal rights group.

PETA is protesting at the commercial use of rabbits by the fur and felt industries.

PETA has also joined with British MP Norman Baker in calling on tourists to boycott Tasmania because of the use of the poison 1080 on wildlife.

The Pretenders rock singer Chrissie Hynde, a member of PETA, said Tasmania was deliberately wiping out wildlife.

“With full approval from the Tasmanian Government, some of the tallest trees in the world, many of them up to 300 years old, are being chopped down for woodchips,” she said.

When it comes to visiting Tasmania or buying its goods, there is currently only one thing to do. Just say no.”

Environment Group Planet Ark founder Jon Dee said the organisation wants to find alternatives to 1080.

The organisation wants to work with Tasmanians to create more timber industry jobs through expanding tree plantations on denuded land instead or on newly cleared old growth forest, he said.
