Evan Ferguson has sealed his loan move to West Ham United, reuniting with his first Brighton and Hove Albion manager Graham Potter.

Despite interest from Arsenal and Bayer Leverkusen, it’s the Hammers who nabbed the Irish striker for the remainder of the season.

Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler has been planning without the 20-year-old, capturing Stefanos Tzimas for £20m, and the hope is for Ferguson to finally get some Premier League game-time following a frustrating period.

“It feels good to be here,” said Ferguson after passing his medical and completing personal terms.

“Seeing the stadium and being here today, I’ve got a very good feeling.

“I can see and know how big West Ham United is. It was a big opportunity for me to come here. I know the gaffer well and look forward to working under him again.

“I want to come in and do my best for the club, score goals, and see where we get to.”

Head coach Potter is excited by the prospect of working with a player who he first coached following Ferguson’s transfer from League of Ireland club Bohemians to Brighton four years ago.

“I’m delighted we’ve been able to bring Evan in on loan until the end of the season,” said Potter.

“He’s a player we obviously know very well, so I’m grateful to the board for bringing him in.

“He’s got plenty of quality attributes as a striker that we believe will benefit the group over the course of the coming months.

“We’re excited to integrate him into the squad and see him in action in the weeks to come.”

Ferguson has started just two league games for the Seagulls this term, coupled with 11 appearances as a substitute, the latest against Nottingham Forest to mark his comeback from an ankle injury. It may well prove his last game for Brighton.

The Meath native has burst on the Premier League scene on new year’s day of 2023, following up his strike against Arsenal with further crucial goals in trips to Everton and Leicester City.

His hat-trick against Newcastle United last season promoted speculation of him developing into Brighton’s next £100m sale but his season was ended by an achilles injury in April.
