Ireland player ratings: Manning and Bazunu the best on show in green

Not much he could have done about Wout Weghorst’s early goal. Made a number of stops but unconvincing technique when fortunately keeping Tijjani Reijnders’ shot out.
Eyebrows raised when he started on the right rather than the middle of the back three. Defensively did OK but he was one of many who struggled to find team-mates with poor passing range.
Turned far too easily by Weghorst for the Dutch goal and was guilty of giving the ball away cheaply on more than one occasion. Poor performance from a player who has been in really good club form.
Appeared uncertain how closely he should have been marking the rapid Xavi Simons. Remains on a steep learning curve at this level. Cleared to continue after a concussion check following a clash of heads with Simons.
Given the captain’s armband, the Wolves full-back made one notable dribble forward late in the first half. However, he was culpable of a couple of inexplicably poor passes too.
Good early chance but sent it straight down the goalkeeper’s throat. That would prove Ireland’s only shot on target. The Preston midfielder battled out of possession but, like everyone in green around him, he was ineffective.
Produced one nice exchange of passes with Adam Idah midway through the second period only for the striker to be offside anyway. Beyond that, there was very little of note from his performance.
Sloppy control and distribution allowed the Netherlands to break on a couple of occasions in the first half. Otherwise average. Substituted late on.
The Galwegian had more touches than any other Ireland player and yet it was hard to remember one standout moment or piece of incisive play. Less guilty of offering the Dutch cheap ball.
Frustrated. Found it hard to get on the ball and dropped deep with increasing frequency without much joy. The sight of him winning a free kick at left-back before being substituted summed his night up.
Anonymous before being hooked at halftime but, like Ferguson, would be justified to complain about poor supply. Showed a good work ethic off the ball and very little else.
Flagged offside after appearing to benefit from a goalkeeping howler that would have unfairly levelled the game up and provided a dangerous low cross late on that was begging for someone to attack.
Made an outstanding sliding block to get in the way of a goalbound Cody Gakpo shot shortly after the hour mark.
