Man Utd continue unbeaten run against Chelsea

Manchester United extended their 100% record by beating Chelsea on a dramatic day at Old Trafford.

Chris Smalling, Nani and Wayne Rooney did the damage with first-half strikes.

But after Fernando Torres had pulled one back, Rooney slipped as he went to take a penalty, missing as a result. Then Torres rounded David de Gea but contrived to miss in front of a completely open goal.

Romelu Lukaku replaced Sturridge, then, after De Gea had saved from Torres, the striker volleyed the rebound over from 10 yards.

Rooney should have scored when the ball squirmed into his path but amazingly, he could only hit the post.

Hernandez flew in to turn home the rebound but blasted into the side netting as Cole flew in to make a tackle Dowd felt was worthy of a booking, but not a penalty, presumably deciding he had played the advantage.

Hernandez could play no further part though and Dimitar Berbatov was introduced.

John Obi Mikel replaced Raul Meireles at the same time, Valencia was booked shortly afterwards for a foul on Torres.

Having scored once in front of the Stretford End, Torres suffered utter humiliation seven minutes from time as he raced on to Ramires’ through ball, rounded De Gea and then somehow fired wide of a completely empty net.

Fletcher was booked for fouling Mata, then Rooney headed straight at Cech before rolling a pass to Berbatov, whose effort was cleared off the line by Cole.
