Central defender Shane Guthrie scored twice as St. Pat's showed great character to bounce back to the top of the Premier Division table after their defeat at Shamrock Rovers on Monday.

Guthrie punished a goalkeeping error by Billy Brennan to head home a Brian Cash corner to give Saints the lead on 17 minutes.

But UCD responded well to level six minutes later when Chris Mulhall latched on to the loose ball to fire home after Graham Rusk's shot rebounded to him.

In a rollercoaster second half in the spilling rain, Saints got their winner on 80 minutes.

Again UCD failed to defender a corner, this time from Ryan Guy, and Guthrie was there to find the net with his head.
