Johnson backs Reds for title

Glen Johnson believes Liverpool can steal the title from Manchester United next season.

The Anfield club’s new £17m full-back is supremely confident his new employers have the quality to go one better than last season, when they finished as runners-up to the men from Old Trafford.

The England defender was unveiled yesterday as Liverpool’s first major signing of the summer, and said: “The boys did fantastically well last year. Hopefully we can now get a few more points and steal it from Manchester United.

“We want to go as far as we can in every competition but all the lads want to win the Premier League and that would be a great start.

“Liverpool went very close last term, a matter of just a few points. If we can nick a few more points this time, and cut out a few mistakes, then the title is very much on for us.”
