Win against St Pat's takes Galway out of bottom three

Vinny Faherty's third goal in two games moved Galway out of the bottom three for the first time since previous boss Tony Cousins was sacked in late March to give Tribesmen's survival hopes a huge lift.

With Friday's FAI Cup semi-final with Bohemians in mind, St. Pat's made a staggering nine changes and it was no surprise that a far more up for it Galway dominated from the start.

St. Pat's keeper Lance Friesz made a brave save from Ciaran Foley early on before Galway deservedly took the lead on 22 minutes when Alan Murphy's cross was headed home by Faherty.

Jonathan Keane missed a sitter in blowing the chance of a second goal five minutes later as Galway remained on top.

Friesz was the busier keeper throughout the second half, saving well from Murphy and then skipper John Fitzgerald as Galway were full value for their big win.
