Cobh cheered by late equaliser
Cobh Ramblers 1 Cork City 1
Ross Gaynor scored a dramatic late penalty to lifted cash-strapped Cobh back off the foot of the table before a very welcome derby crowd of 3,500 at St Colman's Park tonight.
Lawrie Dudfield scored his first goal for Cork to put them in front on 24 minutes. Danny Murphy sent Liam Kearney in on goal to shoot. Cobh keeper James McCarthy did well to parry the winger's shot, but striker Dudfield followed up to score.
Cork had the ball in the net again eight minutes later, but skipper Dan Murray's effort, after Sean Kelly had flicked on a Danny Murphy corner, was ruled out for an infringement.
Cobh battled back in the second half and finally got their reward on 87 minutes.
Kelly took down Ramblers' substitute Daryl Kavanagh inside the area and Gaynor confidently shot the spot kick past Mark McNulty to the despair of the visiting supporters.
