Sinclair set for City return after 'oil change'

Trevor Sinclair has had fluid injected into his knee in an effort to end his injury nightmare.

The Manchester City star has featured in just four of the Blues last 18 matches after being dogged initially by a groin injury, then with a problem in his knee.

Now in the final year of his contract, Sinclair is anxious for the opportunity to impress Blues boss Stuart Pearce enough to earn a new deal.

And, with the 33-year-old reporting the ‘oiling’ procedure a success, there is an outside chance he could be back in action for City’s FA Cup sixth-round tie against either Arsenal or Blackburn on March 11.

“All the knee needed was the equivalent of an oil change,” Sinclair told the Manchester Evening News.

“It needed fluids draining, a bit of rest and an injection just to help it with its mechanical functions.

“It feels absolutely great now. I am upbeat and looking forward to getting back.”

Sinclair stayed back in England to do some gym work while the rest of his team-mates took advantage of a weekend off caused by the postponement of their clash with Carling Cup finalists Chelsea to enjoy a short break in Dubai.

And he is hoping the solo recovery attempt pays off with a return to full training within a fortnight, paving the way for a push back towards first-team action and a possible new contract.

“I definitely want to stay here,” he said.

“As long as I can stay injury-free and still train and enjoy my football, I don’t want to stop playing here.”
