England hit by mass withdrawal

The wisdom of Steve McClaren naming a massive 28-man squad for England’s friendly with Holland was proved after six players withdrew.

McClaren already knew veteran full-back Gary Neville had been ruled out with a calf problem, but then came confirmation that Ledley King (knee), Darren Bent (hamstring), Scott Parker and Stewart Downing (both groin) had also pulled out.
