David Beckham insists he has only positive memories of Alex Ferguson while admitting he misses the team camaraderie at Manchester United.

The former England captain has not commanded a regular place at Real Madrid since the arrival of new manager Fabio Capello, while his contract negotiations are still unresolved.

Now, the 31-year-old insists he had only a good relationship with his former manager at Old Trafford, describing the flying-boot incident, which left Beckham with a head wound, as “an accident”.

Beckham told The Sun: “It was an accident. I’ve known (Alex) Ferguson since I was 12 years old and we had one or two problems in that time.

“Maybe he didn’t want me to leave.

“I don’t think there is any desire on his part for me not to have success. In every way, I hope my luck changes.”
