O’Callaghan in snub to Eircom League clubs

After the news from Belgrade yesterday morning that George O’Callaghan was on the transfer list at Cork City, the former star decided to watch a hurling match on the bank at Ballinlough last evening.

O’Callaghan was a there to give morale support to his brother John who was playing with Whitechurch against Na Piarsaigh in the semi-final of the Capco CPD Junior B hurling championship.

News began filtering through in the late afternoon that Limerick were interested in taking George on loan for the remainder of the season, but he discounted that prospect.

“I am not interested in playing with Limerick and that is no disrespect to that club.

“Look, I want to be straight about this - I am not interested in playing with any other club in the League of Ireland. I am disappointed that Slavia Prague have been unable to make contact with anybody from Cork City.

“This is a very sad time for me, but I am keeping fit and as you can see this evening. I just love watching sport as well as well as playing it.”

To finish a bad day for the O’Callaghan family, Na Piarsaigh won by a point.
