Ferguson to assess Ruud's health

Alex Ferguson will assess the extent of Ruud van Nistelrooy’s stomach complaint before finalising his line-up for Monday’s Premiership clash at Wigan.

The Dutchman was surprisingly omitted from Manchester United’s Carling Cup final line-up last weekend but his hopes for an immediate recall are in the balance after he pulled out of Holland’s midweek win over Ecuador.

Ferguson has not been informed of any further injuries picked up by his international contingent, whose mass departure left Patrice Evra as the only first-team squad man at the Red Devils’ Carrington training complex this week.
