Late equaliser saves Leeds
FT Wigan 1 Leeds 1
Rob Hulse kept Leeds’ FA Cup hopes alive with a late equaliser to continue Wigan’s woeful run in the competition.
David Connolly looked to have fired the Latics into the fourth round for the first time in 19 years with his third goal of the season two minutes into the second half.
But with Paul Jewell’s side down to 10 men, with Ryan Taylor off injured and all three substitutes used, Hulse pounced in the 88th minute with a close-range drive for his 10th this term.
Healy came close with a rising drive in the 71st minute which was swiftly followed by a double change for Wigan, with Roberts and Graham Kavanagh on for Johansson and Skoko.
That then proved a problem as Taylor suffered an injury to his right foot in the 77th minute and he had to be carried to the dressing room by two members of Wigan’s backroom staff.
With Wigan down to 10 men, and Leeds committed, they initially created the better chances, with Connolly first curling a shot inches wide of the left-hand post and then being denied by a Sullivan block.
But then three minutes from time Leeds grabbed an equaliser as a ball in from Lewis, following a short corner, resulted in a scramble which led to Hulse driving home from close range.
