Ferguson: 'Rooney had to go'

Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson has admitted Wayne Rooney left referee Kim Milton Nielsen with no alternative other than to send him off during tonight’s goalless Champions League draw with Villarreal.

Rooney was shown his second yellow card after he sarcastically applauded the Dane’s decision to book him for a second-half tackle on Quique Alvarez.
