Neville: Premiership is top target
Gary Neville has revealed how Manchester United will prioritise the Barclays Premiership over Champions League success this season.
The 30-year-old right-back is set to feature against Everton at Goodison Park in the first match of the league campaign, and the Red Devils want to restore their domestic dominance over rivals Arsenal and Chelsea.
Success in the Premiership is also important following Malcolm Glazer’s takeover at Old Trafford, with a high finish essential to his plans to repay money raised to take control of the club.
“There are a lot of questions asked of us after the change of ownership, talk of Rio Ferdinand’s contract and not winning the title for two seasons,” Neville said in his Times column.
“The first thing in response is that the championship is the number-one priority. We have come to talk about the European Cup and the domestic title in the same breath, but after two years without the domestic crown, that is the one we really need.”
