Sol Campbell has revealed Wayne Rooney admitted not being touched after winning Manchester United’s hotly-contested penalty at Old Trafford earlier this season.

Campbell endured the frustration of seeing Rooney win the penalty, which put United on course to end Arsenal’s 49-game unbeaten league run last October.

The Arsenal centre-back has always maintained he never fouled Rooney, even though the striker managed to persuade referee Mike Riley he had been brought down.

“At the time, he said, ‘I know you didn’t touch me’ but it’s one of those things,” revealed Campbell ahead of the sides’ FA Cup final encounter in Cardiff tomorrow.

“Wayne won a penalty and that’s it really. Sometimes the referee sees it, sometimes he doesn’t.”
