Rovers ended Derry's unbeaten start to record their first win of the season in this five goal thriller.
David Mooney ended Derry’s defensive resistance by scoring the first goal against them when shooting home off a post to put Rovers in front after just seven minutes.
Local boy Pat McCourt doubled Rovers’ lead with a super solo goal on 16 minutes to leave Derry dumbfounded.
Mark Farren got Derry back into the match with his third goal of the season on 33 minutes.
But McCourt then scored another stunning goal to make it 3-1 a minute before the break.
Substitute Ciaran Martyn gave Derry hope when scoring their second on 73 minutes, but Rovers held out for a vital win.
