Cristiano Ronaldo has insisted he is happy with life at Manchester United.

Red Devils officials have been quick to scotch rumours Ronaldo is stalling on contract negotiations, pointing out the Portugal winger’s current deal does not expire until 2008.

The 19-year-old has surprised Sir Alex Ferguson with the speed of his development since his £12.2m (€17.6m) move from Sporting Lisbon 18 months ago and, as one of the less well paid members of the United first-team squad, it would be no surprise if chief executive David Gill did want to open talks in the summer.

However, for now, Ronaldo is happy enough to carry on helping United in their own quadruple bid and has no thought of moving elsewhere.

“I am very happy at Manchester United,” Ronaldo told MUTV.

“At the moment, I am not worrying about what is being written about me, I am just trying to play as well as I can. When people decide they want to talk to me, I will talk to them. Until that point, I am not worried about it.”

Ferguson claimed Ronaldo produced his best performance of the season in the 3-1 win over Aston Villa on Saturday.

The youngster netted his third goal of the campaign to give United the lead, then inspired a second-half revival after Gareth Barry’s equaliser.

Ronaldo hopes to take that form into Wednesday night’s Carling Cup semi-final with Chelsea as the Old Trafford outfit look to derail Jose Mourinho’s own quadruple bid as well as booking their place in the Millennium Stadium decider.

“Saturday was good for me and the team and hopefully we can carry on like that,” he added.

“Every player has good and bad moments. I promised to work hard and that is what I have been doing. I want to carry on doing that and try to help the team continue to get good results.”
