The Football Association refused to make any comment early today on whether Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho would face any charges for his controversial remarks about referee Neale Barry.

The FA may well ask Mourinho for clarification of his outspoken comments before deciding whether to hit the Blues manager with a disrepute charge.

The former Porto manager claimed that Alex Ferguson influenced Barry’s second half performance when the Blues boss saw the pair undergoing a half-time discussion as they walked down the tunnel at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho alleged the official gave United favourable decisions during the second half of the Carling Cup semi-final.

But the Blues chief has already stated that he is ready to fight his corner if the FA decide to take action against him over remarks which clearly call into question Barry’s neutrality and integrity along with Ferguson’s own conduct.

To make matters worse for Mourinho, match statistics today showed that Barry awarded 10 free-kicks to Chelsea and nine to Manchester United in the second period.
