Savage bid 'a waste of fax paper'
Birmingham managing director Karen Brady has revealed the Blues have turned down a “derisory” opening bid from Blackburn for Robbie Savage.
Reports suggest Rovers have offered to pay £500,000 (€720,900) up front and up to £2.2m (€3.2m) overall for the Wales midfielder, depending on future success at staying in the Premiership.
Brady told The Sun: “Blackburn faxed us an offer which was a waste of fax paper and a waste of my time reading it.
“I had told them not to bother putting a bid in writing unless it was a serious one. But what they came up with was nothing short of derisory.
“It could have meant us waiting five years to get our money.
“The way things are going all this could affect the relationship between the two clubs.
“They’ve got into Robbie Savage’s head. But he’s not for sale – and that’s it.”
Savage yesterday insisted he was happy to carry on as normal and let the two clubs decide his fate.
“There’s been speculation about me for two years now, first Everton, and both times there were bids in for me and I’m still a Birmingham player,” Savage said on Sky Sports News.
“It’s not for me to say anything, it’s between the two clubs. I haven’t created the speculation myself, it’s not up to me.”
Blackburn, meanwhile, have turned down a cheeky bid for veteran striker Paul Dickov from Birmingham.
“We rejected the approach,” chief executive John Williams told Blackburn’s official website, www.rovers.co.uk. “Paul also made it clear he was happy here and had no intention of leaving.”
However, Mark Hughes is anxious to tinker with his squad next month and one player who could be off-loaded is former Spain midfielder Javier De Pedro.
He has been linked with a move to Real Mallorca after making only two appearances for Blackburn – under former boss Graeme Souness.
Hughes also insists he has no problems with the hustle and bustle of the transfer market.
“It can be a bit hectic with agents and managers on the phone, seeking information and whatever,” he said. “But it is enjoyable and part and parcel of the profession we are in.”
