Shearer sitting out

Newcastle boss Graeme Souness is set to ring the changes for tomorrow night’s Carling Cup third round clash with Norwich.

Skipper Alan Shearer is in the squad but will not start as the fit-again Patrick Kluivert is given 90 minutes, while Steve Harper will play in goal with Shay Given getting a rest.

Stephen Carr has recovered from a leg injury picked up in Sunday’s 4-3 Barclays Premiership win over Manchester City, but with Titus Bramble and, for the first time, Ronny Johnsen included in the squad, there are likely to be changes at the back too.
