Kenyon at fault for Ronaldinho failure: Fergie

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has blamed former chief executive Peter Kenyon for the club’s failure to sign Ronaldinho.

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has blamed former chief executive Peter Kenyon for the club’s failure to sign Ronaldinho.

The Brazilian World Cup winner joined Barcelona last summer after the Spanish giants won a high-profile tussle with United for the player’s signature.

United’s transfer negotiations were then handled by Kenyon, who is now at Chelsea after leaving his post at Old Trafford early in the season.

Ferguson told the News of the World: “It was disappointing not to get Ronaldinho.

“There was a problem with his brother, who was his agent, but Peter Kenyon, who was chief executive then, didn’t get the job done.”

Ferguson has also revealed his frustration at working for a football plc rather than a club.

He added: “We are a plc with responsibilities. It’s not too restricting and we can spend, but there has to be a balance.”
